Drilling Ahead

A Social Network of Oil & Gas Professionals

Since there is alot of guys on here with time invested in the patch. Just out of curiosity what is the best company that you have worked for? Ive hear the same stories for rig to rig and company to company.
Is it always going to be about who you know and cut throat business. Good hands getting tossed to the side so a lazy friend can be on that takes his job for granted..
When i came to work i put 100% in every day. I wasnt there to make friends and gossip or kiss the bosses ass, but grated i did make a few very good friends that i still keep in touch with. I thought for sure my work ethics, and inteligents would trump the buddy system, but it did not.. Maybe i was just working around arrogent, small minded people at the time.
Now ive had many guys say " hey, dont take the patch personal" thats the way it is... I dont under stand how i couldnt take it personal because its my family future your playing with, and its some thing i love and planned to retire from one day..
Maybe this is a company thing or maybe not, but if you would like to this and discuss it i would love to hear what you have to say...

I got to say, that I was pleased working for Nabors. I worked for them out of Wyoming for awhile. I was not fired but I had to quit(I found out I was pregnant). They treated me well and equally as being a female roughneck. I just hope I can get back on a rig soon.

Trinidy i worked in Wyoming as a safety coordinator for Safety Management Systems. I was on the Nabors 789 from early 2007 through April 2008. Which rig was you on? We worked out of the Pinedale area.

How do you feel about how they cut there over time in half? In tx, floor hands are making a 15 some thing a hour and working 12 hour days, 84 hours a week.. There only getting paid 20 hours of over time. Now ND hands are making 19 a hour, 84 hours a week with 20 hours of over time. Now i see the restructurer both ways. It kept more people working rather then getting laid off, but do you think that Nabors is going to go back to 44 hours of over time or just keep it the way its is and just give raises??
Im not trying to talk down on nabors, and i would go work for them.. I just wanted to know what you think..

You're funny man! I'm a driller for nabors in a acadamy joy stick and walking rig that can do up to 11 holes . Not to put your company down, which I never heard about, but my rig is probably worth more than your entire fleet. Yea nabors may have its bad shit just like every other company but c'mon man, how can you even compare that junk iron to nabors?! You guys still use a kelly? Now, thats just 0ld shit man! The point is, don't put another man down cause who they work for. It just shows what kind of dum ass you are!

McVay Drilling, Hobbs, NM. And I'm sorry but it is my opinion this patch does not need female roughnecks.

As a wife of a roughneck/driller I have to agree with this.

I have to say that I had many pushers tell me they prefer women over men because we think before we do there for we have higher safety. Any women if they put there mind to it can work just as good as a guy. Believe it or not I have not had a problem in the patch and I carry my weight sometimes more on the rig. Sorry if you had a bad experience with a "female" but just like guys therre are good hands and bead hands.
