Drilling Ahead

A Social Network of Oil & Gas Professionals

I'm an ex- oil field hand, started out in 1980, but now, hobby is well site photography, after rig has done the hole and they leave, is it log and perf.? or does a workover come directly in? I'm planning on some night time photo shots, even with workover on location. Reply would be appreciated and I'm just curious, ...this rig is only half mile from my house. ..see pics. thanx, -Rick-

Hey just thought I would answer this but as soon as the rig leaves they will come in and perf and frac the well then they will bring in the workover rig to run in production tubing

Hello Rick. Logging is usually done when the drilling rig is on hole to determine if casing is to be run, so the logging is done if the rotary is gone and the well is to be completed. Around here the workover rig will come in within a week or two, and perforating and acidizing/fracturing is done with the workover rig on hole. The rig will run production tubing on day one, then perforate (if the well is vertical - horizontals don't need to be perf'd), swab test, pull the tubing, acidize and/or frac, run the tubing back in, swab test, then if necessary, the tubing is pulled once more to attach a pump, etc., then run back in and the completion is done. All of this will take about a week to do. Oh, and I just noticed that you're probably talking about Baron's new well in Bethany. I believe that that well is the Carlson #1-21H, so it's a horizontal, and therefore it will not need to be perforated. I would bet money it will need a frac, and probably a good sized one at that. It will probably also have a submersible pump run in it when it is completed - it is in the Hunton Lime and will make a crapload of saltwater. Please let me know if you get pics of it, especially the frac - I would love to see one of their frac jobs.
