Drilling Ahead

World Oilfield Forum

Does anybody know of any place that might have production drawings or blueprints of old wooded cable tool rigs?     I'm going to build a working scale model of one but I need those plans badly.    I found one on display but it has been revised and "butchered" so many times it hardly looks like the original did.

I've already completed a working scale model steam engine and boiler to power the rig with and have photos of it in the pictures section of Drilling Ahead.    Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks     Tom Kidpgen

Tom,

I'll look in some of my old composite catalogs and see what I can come up with.  I also have an early 1900's book about drilling that my have some useful info in it.  It's so old that the author suggest to the reader that you "steer clear of any internal combustion engine, as they are a unreliable new technology and will fade away quickly, steam is the only reliable source of power".
