Some spudders had them mounted just below the drilling sheave, Fort Worths, Stars,Wichita Falls with what they would call A type mast. The spudders that had double pole masts usually were set up with the sheave above as you asked. They set it out to clear drill line and easier to swing out to dump box.
Permalink Reply by Tom Kipgen on September 27, 2011 at 7:47am Thanks Benny. That helps a great deal. I was barking up the wrong mast I think. Do you suppose the Wichita Falls (Wichtex 18) had wood mast poles originally? Do you think the mast in the attached pic was original to the Wichtex?
I wish I'd been paying attention when my Dad used to tell me about all this stuff but I was too busy thinking about the skirts.
