World Oilfield Forum
I've been checking out this site for a few days and decided I would post.
I've been with my fiance' for 3 years in June, we're getting married in sept and we have a 2 month old baby girl. he's worked in the oil field for 5 years, so its all I've known during our relationship.. he just switched companies and is now working for Rowan drilling, we moved from Oklahoma to Texas in Dec 09 I worked as a photographer until I had our baby and now I'm a SAHM, I really only know his family here and people I used to work with, his whole family has been in the oil field for generations so its a family thing.
I really don't have anyone who understands what its like to be left alone for two weeks at a time with a new baby and have no friends to get out with.

Permalink Reply by Samantha Jo on May 18, 2011 at 4:01am I just have to take it day by day, like yesterday I had a hard day because I got used to him coming home after a week, I just had to tell myself only 6 more days and then he's home for two weeks.
how far away does yours work?
mine has never worked close enough to go see him for a few days, but now he's only 3 hrs away so we might try that out, just go get a hotel and stay a few days to help get ya through.
I also just try to stay busy, with projects and books, helps pass the time
I try to stay busy with projects also when I'm not working. You definitely have to take it day by day.
We are not married yet and live 200 miles apart so that in itself is hard. He works offshore 3 weeks on/3 weeks off so unfortunately we don't see each other very much right now. Maybe starting out in a long distance relationship will actually help so eventually 3 weeks away will seem easy to deal with lol.
I hope you get to go see your fiance for a few days at least :) Do you have other children or just the baby?

Hi Samantha and Kristi
My husband works for Helmrich and Payne, hes a driller right now but training for pusher now. So we will be switching from 7on 7off to 14on 14off. This is the hardest life we could live. We have 5 kids and have been married 16 years, 15 of those he has worked oil field. I keep myself buzy with the kids activites and crafts. I also refurbish antiques. But when hes home I try to slow down, which is hard with the kids. I feel for the wives that have men working offshore. Long hitches, but when they are home its great. Time makes the heart grow founder, well I tell myself that so I can sleep at night. I think for me thats the hardest part of it all besides the constant worring. E-mails, and cell phones are great. My baby is only 3 hrs away but for us its hard to take that trip withthe kids. We use to when they were littler. Best memories my older ones have, we only had 3 when we would take those trips. Now our oldest is 15 soon to be 16 and well teenagers need supervision, lol. Take care ladies and God bless the oil field wife.

Hi Amanda
Are you staying in Texas when he goes to Pennsylvania? I'd love to talk to you anytime, just message me if you want. Mine works offshore 21/21 and is leaving in the morning :( I miss him already!
Take care,
Kristy
