Comment by Wendy Brown on October 27, 2012 at 1:17am Hey ladies. I am very brand new to this life and it is hard to get use to but I have the strength to keep planning my wedding. My love has been doing this for 2 years in North Dakota. He moved me from Texas to Montana.
We are recurrently reconnected after 12 years. I couldn't have believed it myself. But it was like we didn't skip a beat. The only thing is that he works 6 hours away and odd shifts. Definitely not a 9 to 5 kind of relationship.
I am thankful that he has a great job and knows that after 12 years, I am here for him when he comes home. I am also, always a phone call away when he gets a chance.
I love my Gene and no matter how much he has to work or how long we might be apart we have this unbelievable heart that is connected. We are one and will always will be.
Thank you for listening.

Comment by Traci Fowler on April 30, 2012 at 11:27am Hi Stacy,
We've had a similar situation for the past 4 years as well. It's essential that you find a tax specialist who is knowledgeable about the treaties the US has with foreign nations concerning taxation of foreign income. Every country has different rules, exceptions, loopholes, etc. Also, you want to make sure you're getting any foreign tax credits you have coming. My personal recommendation is to locate a multi-national firm (such as Deloitte Touche, KPMG, Ernst & Young, etc.) to review your local guy's work. They ought to be able to do this for you for a few hundred dollars which is tax deductible on next year's taxes.
My husband has worked in Turkey, Scotland, Canada and Liberia as well as the U.S. Sometimes, multiple combinations of these places. But he's only had to file taxes in the U.S. (always) and Canada because of the amount of days he was actually performing work in those foreign nations (that's where the tax treaties come into play). Some years his foreign tax credit (a credit which reduces his taxable income) is more than my annual salary. My second word of advice would be to become familiar with a couple of publications on the IRS.gov website. Here's a good starting point - easily skimmable with hyperlinks to the documents you'll want to be familiar with: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc856.html.
I hope that's helpful. I've learned a lot the last few years - we've been dealing with foreign taxes for 4 years now. I'm no expert, but I'm happy to share what I've learned and help point you in the right direction.
