O.K. Any of you old school hands ever work for BUTLER DIRLLING? Or Westen Drilling?

Comment by AJ "CATFISH" Cafarelli on February 26, 2015 at 10:47pm

I think back to what it meant to be old school..? well I broke out in 1975 on a nice jackknife double in South, AR and let me tell y'all everyone on the rig was either related or grew up with each other.. I was the only outsider per say but my best friend daddy was our driller & his uncle was our tool pusher.. but let me tell y'all those old boy's taught me so much from working the worm corner to throwing the spinning chain and yes we rode the block up to the monkey board and how we would see how fast we could round trip 7,000' of 4 1/2" damn those were the day's.. I can still hear Uncle Sonny telling me to make'em bite.. and how smooth that old man was on the brake handle.. I could write a book on what he and the other old timers had taught me.. and I'm not ashamed to say I love those tough old hands.. and the day Uncle Sonny & big Sam he called me into the dog house and said CATFISH your one of us your "OFT" now get ready to run casing we did that too back then..!! well I can go on & on you tough old boy's who broke out before me and during the 70's & 80's remember what it was like to old school..!! these new rigs and all that automatic equipment do have a clue on what OLD SCHOOL really was.. as for me I've worked on small doubles to big triples.. MURCO RIG 58 & RIG 14 big diesel electrics & PENROD RIGS 6 & 7 along with EXETER DRLG/GLOBAL MARINE/LOFFLAND BROTHERS/NOBLE/KERN DRLG.. I still have my fist hard hat.."METAL LID" so to all y'all how broke out long before my wormy a** stepped into my first dog house.. I tip my hat to y'all and accepting me into your club as an old school "OFT".. y'all remember breaking out from under the surface and fast holing.. Kelly's down and your making a connection about every 3 minutes.. you never leave the rig floor during your 8 hour tour.. we would eat our lunch on the way home..!! yes sir those were the day's..!!

I can tell I getting old when I can remember and miss seeing when cabletool rigs were running around the clock. Mostly Bucyrus Erie and a few Walker-Neer. It was always a treat for me to see the lights from rigs at night. In the late 60s 70s and very early 80s is when I remember this.
