Drilling Ahead

World Oilfield Forum

I will open this discussion with the pretence that you have read my blog about a man being killed , it's on my home page...http://www.drillingahead.com/profiles/blogs/a-very-sad-but-true-story
The story formally written took place in the seventy's.......now jumping into the 21st century, with all the JSA'S written, STOP cards, STJ and the focus on safety as being No. 1, we have seen the "Beast" take another man down. This time it was running 13 3/8" casing. I have personally worked with this group of peopleon that rig. I don't know the exact details, but none the less a man was killed, his family will be missing papa this Christmas.
The difference from the accident in the seventy's and the one today, is that we will investigate and find out "What went wrong".......it won't be swept under the carpet...it will be sad , but we'll take from what happened today to a higher level and learn from it.
I'm very happy and proud to be a part of this "New Oilfield"......our and my objective is to produce oil without the expence having injuries to my men..........when I get more details, I'll post them

Dammit all too h3ll.

It makes me sad to hear this news Karl, especially at this time of the year when people typically have better spirits with the thought of the holiday season approaching. Do keep us updated ok?

If you can find out about the family, maybe a few of us can put something together to assist in this time of sorrow.
I hear you there. I seen too many hands get maimed or killed back in the 60's & 70's on rigs . Myself included. Seems there wasn't much care for hands in those days. They were treated like cattle in the feedlot. Hopefully hands now days don't have to put up with much like we did then.
you know guys thats so true in every since i remember when you got hurt you shook it off and kept on rough necking or picked up the slack till that hand was able to join the rodeo again! but to a family in this situation even with jobs being as slow as they are i believe that we could help out this family and hopefully those kids will have some kind of joy for the hollidays, its surely not the same as having daddy im sure being a father of 5 and the wife too wwe all would hope that our fello rough necks would do the same for us,,,,, let me know if we get anything going for them i would like to do my part as would my family who are all rough necks! and god bless you karl for having the hart to start something like this
I KNOW OF A HAND ( SAM) THAT DIED IN THE 80'S THIS SAME WAY. PIPE HIT HIM IN THE CHEST. HE THOUGHT HE WAS OK. HE DIED TWO WEEKS LATER. ( HIS HEART WAS KNOCKED LOOSE FROM THE CAVITY THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE. AND HE DIED IN HIS SLEEP AT HOME.) YOUNGESTERS PLEASE REPORT ALL ACCIEDENTS TO YOUR DRILLER AND TOOLPUSHER NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK. LET THEM DECIDE HOW BAD IT IS. WE NEED ALL OF YOU
