A man has died following an drilling rig accident near Bonnyville.
The oilfield worker was dead when police arrived at the site west of La Corey around 4 a.m. Saturday, Bonnyville RCMP said Tuesday.
It’s believed the man, who is from the Lac La Biche area but has not yet been identified, was backed over by a winch truck during a rig move.
RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety officials are investigating. Information on the cause of death is not expected until Wednesday, following the medical examiner’s report.
La Corey is a hamlet about 270 kilometres northwest of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada.
Thats so sad to hear, I witnessed an incident where a hand got in between a winch truck and a derrick while hooking onto it after being two truck, luckly driver stopped just before the hand got hurt, he was stuck in between but just enough to hold him there and not hurt him, talk about a close call.
