In regards to your article on Fear Factor, I have been a ToolPusher for the past 13 years. I have had to deal with many incidents over that time. Thank God, nothing fatal as of yet. I would just like to say that I totally agree with your opinion or findings. When a superior such as a Driller, Toolpusher or Company man is feared by less knowledgable workers, this seems to be the end result in most cases, "scared to ask".
I have a relationship with my workers, where right down to the LeaseMan, he not be afraid to ask questions. I turned the old cliche' around and preach to my men, "Its better to ask questions and NOT be thought of as a fool than to proceed unsure and remove all doubt".
I have found that there are very few people that are incapable of learning, when taught in a calm manner, that cant move ahead but there is the odd one now & then. I always explain why I want it done my way (from experience) after I have analyzed their reasoning and determine whether it is better or not. I find when you allow workers to think for themsevles but when in doubt come to the boss, without catching hell, you crank out better workers.
Thank you for your offer. I thought I answered you a while back but I found my original note in my drafts folder. I apologize for taking so long to reply.

Hello Bill,
I just read your post - very interested in your area of study! I am a social worker in Canada - I left my job working with seniors to operate a safety training company. As a free service, I try to help people find employment after they take our training. I would be very interested in learning more about the psychology of safety!Wouls greatly appreciate it if you would forward me the video as well as any other information! Thanks!
