I am currently working, but always looking for something in the patch that might be better. I put my basic info. on drilling aheads NABORS JOBS page on the right side of screen and its a joke you should remove that post.

Thanks you guys again for sharing your knowledge.

The formation pressures and gradients would be one of the main things to look at as well as the hydrocarbons that would be drilled into. Total depth of the well would determine the type and grade of the casing strings. The fishing isn't that much of…

how does "connection" or "thread" type effect string design.

Depth should be a factor

Good post...oilfield practices and books, two powerfull combinations to be more professional.

Another factor is how fast you are pulling the pipe. It's a lot easier to "catch" a slug with a mud motor and mwd in the hole.

I think slug wt and volume also varies according to either drilling vertical or horizontal well and if we are usin mud motor and MWD tools or not.

Typically, with its weight over 2 ppg, slug will do its job most of the time. From pactical stand point, I agree with Duane about hole cleaning practices. Thanks you guys for sharing your great ideas. Cheers, Rachain J.

If the mud is heavier on the backside you have not circulated your hole clean. I little circulating time may save you tripping problems
February 20
"sometimes mud in annulus side may be heavier than measured MW due to cutting, drilling solid contaminated in mud" is the reason you should check weight in and out prior to TOH, and get your slug weight 2 ppg. heavier. A slug pit is great for this,…

Round trip ton-miles Calculation

Drilling Ton-Mile is the work of drilling line that is commonly measured as the cumulative of the load lifted in tons and the distance lifted or lowered in miles. When the predetermined ton-mile limit is reached, drilling contractors will perform slip and cut drilling line to prevent drilling line fatigue.

Round trip ton-miles (RTTM) formula is listed below;

RTTM = (Wp x D xContinue

What factors must be considered when designing a casing/tubing string?

Casing and tubing selection are one of the critical tasks for constructing each wellbore to meet the wellbore objective. There are several selection criteria for casing/tubing string design.

The factors must be contemplated when designing a casing and/or tubing string as listed below;

• Reservoir fluid type (oil, gas, or combine)
• Formation Pressure gradient and fractu… Continue

What is slug mud? How much volume and weight of slug mud should be?

Slug Mud: It is heavy mud which is used to push lighter mud weight down before pulling drill pipe out of hole. Slug is used when pipe became wet while pulling out of hole.

Normally, 1.5 to 2 PPG over current mud weight is a rule of thumb to decide how much weight of slug should be. For example, current mud weight is 10 PPG. Slug weight should be about 11.5 to 12 PPG.

Normally, slug is pumped to push mud down approximate 200 ft (+/2 stands) and slug volume can be calculated… Continue

Functions of Drilling Fluid

You may not know that drilling fluid or mud has several important functions helping us achieve goal to drill well. I would like to share about the functions of drilling fluid as follows;
drilling mud

1. Transport cutting and dispose to surface - The drilling fluid brings the drilled material to the ground surface either by mud rheology and velocity.

2. Clean drill bits – As drilling fluid exits the bit jets, fluid velocity removes cutting from the bit teeth and bit body. This prevents bit ball… Continue
