Tales of a Domestic Energy Advocate (Entry 001) April 27, 2011

As I ponder how best to start this blog, I suppose it would be most logical to start from the beginning of the journey. Of course I didn’t think of it that way at first. All I wanted to do was correct a media article. But I get ahead of myself…

My husband and I relocated to NE Pennsylvania two years ago this July, both of us having for the most part been born and raised in Wyoming State, always in or around some sort of mining or drilling of. He broke out drilling the CBM fields of… Continue

Importance of Hole Cleaning

Nowadays people have more focusing on new technology about drilling mud and try to improve drilling fluid properties to achieve hole cleaning because many wells drilled in the world are more… Continue

Remember Deepwater Horizon

As you know from my profile I am not a driller but I am on the downstream side of oil. Let us not forget those forget those who gave there lives last year on the Horizon. God bless our men and women who give there lives for this great nation. Lest not we forget those brave men and women who gave there lives just doing their job.

The Movie "Gasland"

Just went and saw the movie

Gasland

hosted by a local group here in town. While I am not associated with the politics of these folks, I did want to see what all the hullabaloo has been about with this homemade flick.

Wow, talk about a lit stick of dynamite! Lots of emotional content, little factual context around the content. Sure makes gas drilling and hydro fracing look bad.… Continue

pH in drilling mud

pH is a value representing the hydrogen ion concentration in liquid. We use it to indicate acidity or alkalinity of drilling mud especially water base mud. Let’s talk about general of the pH. The pH is presented in a numerical value (0-14) which means an inverse measurement of hydrogen concentration in the fluid.

The pH formula is listed below;…

New Drill Pipe Make Up Procedure

Proper initial make-up is probably the most important factor affecting the life of the tool joint connections.

Here are some recommendations to follow:

1. Proper make-up torque is determined by the connection type, size, OD and ID and may be found in…

I can knock the oilfield being safer.

I CAN knock the oilfield for making it safer. The oilfield has, is, and always will be dangerous and I wish it wouldn't change. The safety men with these oil companies(because they're not qualified to get a real job) keep dreaming up new regulations that made the workplace unbearable for the worker. They've taken away the risk which means they've taken away the reward as well. No worker is allowed to be exceptional anymore. As a result, the quality of work and worker has went down in a… Continue
