Drilling Ahead

World Oilfield Forum

I have started this blog as a place for everyone to post any off topic stuff concerning the Deepwater Horizon spill and efforts to contain it.

Some think BP is doing a good job-others think they are not doing enough.

Some appreciate all the efforts with containment domes and the likes while others call them crazy worthless time-wasting ideas.

What do you think of the politics involved in all of this?

I am looking forward to all your responses. This could be a heated emotional discussion so please be sure and make posts with acceptable language.

I look forward to all your thoughts and opinions.

Sereda,
When you fire one roughneck that isn't carrying his part of the load, it seems to perk up the others, or cause them to leave.

Either way, it is change and it is confrontational, and it's how the real world works.

Every vote counts here. I didn't always believe that, but the last 18 months have opened my eyes.

Wow, that is great! I hope people pay attention to it! Here in lovely Nevada we are represented by one of the finest Harry Reid - Hopefully people will realize and not vote for him again.

Hey Cari, is it true what I hear? That Harry Reid's son is running for office, and isn't using his last name?

If so, that'll tell you why we don't hear the term "family values" any more.

Been a while since that one has been used much.....like maybe 18 months????

Hi DeeperCheaper
Yes that is true. Rory Reid is running for governor here and well in all the ads that I have seen he refrains from mentioning his last name. Anyone that pays attention to politicians knows who he is and his agenda, however many believe just because he is a Dem that secures his vote. I have never, ever seen so many ignorant people than what is found here in Nevada. I am sad to announce that everyone is afraid if Reid gets out of office (praying he does) then Nevada no longer has a majority leader - what the heck has Reid done for Nevada, oh wait I remember Bankrupted us and doesn't give a hoot about his state.

I could talk about politics forever. I have been tuning out the news somewhat because I am so sick of hearing everyone bash on the oil companies, and yet wondering why gas prices are rising. I think BP has allowed a perfect opportunity to see how helpless our government really is and how far they have strayed from our founding fathers...yet somehow people would rather believe lies, stories, and have HOPE that one individual can CHANGE everything! Didn't see that coming for our future at all.

Rigs leaving the Gulf of Mexico, the only quick oil to market in the Gulf of Mexico, punishing the oil companies who do follow SOP we figured out in 1970? 1960? instead of the ONE oil company that didn't.

I guess they want $200 oil.

It will be a bump, but it will also resurrect the boom.

Cari, I'm trying to quote you below. I hope it works and the members can read it, and not read it out of context. I think you just hit upon and showcased something that will come into play in the 2012 elections...

We have a saying in Texas......"Give 'em enough rope, and they'll hang themselves..."

Well stated post and for the first time I want to welcome you......You rock in my book!!!!

Deeper you are right every vote does count and up here when the elected officials say or do what we don't agree with the people complain and we all act at the next election. And with our political system we can and sometimes do end up with a minority government which to elect a government here only takes at the most six months for us to decide. The other thing is our government doesn't try to shut the oil industry down. That is all of the environmentalists. So the one that talks the loudest usually gets heard the most. They don't have to know what they are saying, they just speak. There is little to no fact just negative opinion. Bad news sells the best, good news is barely even listened to.

Minority government? We have never had anything else.

The revolution was supported by about 1/3. Another third wanted to stay British. 1/3 really didn't care much either way. The revolutionaries took the day, barely, but were by no means a majority.

Today the numbers are about 1/5 supporting one wing of the party or the other, 3/5 don't much care either way or recognize there isn't much difference between the Capone's and the Gambinos.

I would fully support requiring a majority vote. Then we would have "none of the above", a distinct improvement. I think we would see the return of the Bull Moose, and with luck a candidate who represents a majority.

Many countries I travel to require 51% and assess a fine for anyone who fail to vote.

I would prefer to require a simple test and 51% of the votes of those who pass it.

DP Consultant you are so correct, I've worked in countries were if you voted you have the good chance to get flogged or your fingers broken. And that wasn't Afghanistan ether. The one thing that is good about North America on paper we have rights and freedoms, outside of the paper we have nothing. At least I can still go overseas to work with no problem, but if I try to go down to the states I have nothing but trouble. Strange situation going south of the 49th. It is too bad it is such a beautiful country and a lot of my American friends are great people as well.

I would prefer that only taxpayers were allowed to vote. That way the folks with the skin in the game could make a difference. Too many folks that have never had a job and live on government charity vote for those that will continue the charity.

That's how we have this President now. Which brings up another point-I don't think politicians that have never held a real job in the real world should be allowed to hold office. You get guys like Obama walking around with their sleeves rolled up like they are about to do work-but touch nothing related to work. He takes the pulpit and bashes Exxon for making too much money-yet he has NEVER created a real job for anyone in his life.
I really take offense to that. Obama is a fraud and a terrible leader.
There, I said it...hehe
