I am sure it is the same way for crab boat crews when they watch "Deadliest Catch." It's all for TV. And I am sure they are hoping for higher ratings after the BP disaster. I have worked off of a few Big Dog rigs many years ago when I still lived in West Texas. They are junk. The owner is a cheapskate and it shows with his iron and crews. My wife always wonders if they would ever come film on my rig. I remind her that they will never do that because it is way too boring. They would have to film for a month or two just to get enough drama for a one hour show. We all know that is the case on most of our rigs. They picked junk rigs and I believe they got advice on somebody on where to find it. Oklahoma might be cleaning up their act a little bit, so that leaves the little straight hole punchers in West Texas. So, I say we watch it. Everybody needs a little comic relief.

I think it was entertaining, even though not realistic. But what else is worth watching on TV these days? Most nights I watch Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and call it a night. There isn't much good out there as far as reality shows or sitcoms these days.

I would like to see a documentary on real oil rigs - both historic and current. I know... some of the current ones ARE historic - especially here in NW Pa.

Comment by Chuck Emerson on July 27, 2010 at 8:16pm: It is hard enough to get the general public a realistic picture of the Oil & Gas Industry with the appalling media we have, without putting out complete hogwash like this. I agree with Curtis completely that it is an embarassment to us all. Mike Rowe did a segment of "Dirty Jobs" on a drilling rig a few years ago and it was an accurate portrayal as I've ever see, so I know it can be done. Why do they coninue to foist this excrement off on us. We in "The Patch" deserve much better!
