Preventive actions:
1. Use drilling mud that heavy enough to stabilize overburden stress.these shales will often have microfractures which contributes to the spalling if the mud weight is not sufficient. If the drilling mud contains 'plugging and sealing' type materials, the microfractures will be stabilized and the wellbore strengthened. Look at a product like BlacKnite from Sun Drilling products
