I've heard several people say they flunked the Patterson Psyche test. What's up with that? Does anybody know where to get one? What are they looking for?

I've heard the same report. In short if you're not a choir boy it seems impossible to answer some of the questions w/o implicating yourself (Have you ever stolen anything from a job? Have you ever broken the law?).

This from ehow.com

"First, you have to realize that the people making a lot of the major decisions in most companies are way out of touch with reality. Whoever makes the decision to implement personality tests for potential new-hires is enticed by the supposed savings and increase in the overall quality of employees and disregards that these tests are extremely flawed for several reasons. Almost any personality assessment you'll ever take does not apply to the real world in the slightest bit, and we're going to explore why."

Wayne I have been doing some searching to see if I could find a copy of the Patterson UTI pre employmet test. So far no luck but I have found some information on this type test in general-really good infpormation that should help anyone understand how to pass the Patterson UTI psyche test.
Here is a link to that article as referenced above

It seemed dual purpose to me, a psyche test on one note and an honesty test on the other, simply by how some of the questions are re-asked in a different.

Several years ago, and I know that has changed, you had to be a psychco to work there, or at least be a toolpusher. Seasons change.

I took passed the test a few months ago. Basically they want to know that you never fight, steal or do drugs. You need to make sure you answer all these questions accordingly. However, do not answer every question on the test l
ike you are an angel. Questions like "how important is it for you to be able to physically defend yourself?" there seems to be more flexibility in their expectations. Hope this helps you.

Dang it, now there's a reward? Mine was on a computer. I've heard rumors it is on the internet somewhere. It helps, when you take the test, to picture your mother standing behind you polishing your halo.

um, I took it, was on a computer though...no way to walk out with it...

Great link from Curtis (you should check it out before applying), sounds like that guy has previously applied at Patterson, hah! Good thing i have been there since before they started using this garbage to screen new hires. All these comments are good.
They basically try to catch you in a lie about theft, drugs, or fighting by asking you several versions of the same question. They blackball you if you fail it (or the hair follicle test.)

The only man ever injured on my crew passed it, although i would not have hired him, with all due respect. He was injured twice in short order and critically the second time.

The test is acclaimed to save managers trouble they would have to deal with as managers, yet it ignores the pain it causes the drillers as a result. Many good hands get culled out and the work force that gets the positions as a result are often less than desirable.

I worked for Patterson UTI Drilling Co. I found that you can have all the experience and knowledge about drilling rigs there is to know. You can take this an a dollar an you might get a cup of coffee with Patterson Drilling Co. They don't won't and will not pay for it.

They are just checking to see if you are dumb enough to work for them
