Are things slowing down again? First sign is usually salesmen showing up, consultants looking for vacant trailers, and Directional hands getting days off. In S.Texas, Barnett and Haynesville hands are turning up south of I-10.
Comment by Drilling Ahead on January 26, 2012 at 8:51am Hi Jay, there is a slowdown under way but it looks like it will be confined to "dry gas" areas like the Barnett Shale in your area. Chesapeake announced they were pulling out rigs and I am sure others have done so or will follow suit. The problem seems to be mild weather and underground storage for natural gas is full. This has caused natural gas prices to fall to lows not seen in a long time.
I doubt many of the rigs get stacked. More likely they will be moved to some of the horizontal oil plays like the Eagle Ford, Bakken, Utica and maybe even Marcellus. I know some are slated to drill here in the Colony Granite Wash in Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. The liquids rich Mississippian formation in Oklahoma is increasing in rig count-things should really ramp up here.
I think it's going to be more of an adjustment than a slowdown
