Drilling Ahead

World Oilfield Forum

I think this video comes from the USSR. If you look closely you can see the rig in the distance right before the drill bit reaches the surface

People were by the spot with camera to record the bit coming out from the ground.

This should be planned.

I do believe someone's calculation were a bit off .  This was e second time I heard of this, but the first that was filmed. Are they sure this is not a road crossing for the phone company.

I know the case when one 23" hole was drilled under an Amazon river for passing theoil duct.

The rig spud on one side of the river and in the other side, the point selected for the bit arise, was cleaned off from bush. Tribune stand and cameraman was arranged, and a big dartboard was drawn in the ground.

The bit got out in the jungle more than 50 meters away from target.

That was a ashamed directional drilling nightmare

Sure did take a minute to realize there was no pump pressure. Wonder if that directional driller still got a job?

At least they can save time with pulling out the bit staright on from surface. Bit and BHAt will be pulled out first than DP.
